Thinking "Inside The Box"

G&M only thinks inside the box when details are important. In the attached photos you can see that the first floor walls are going up. We call this making the box. Did you know that great pain is made over how square the framing is for the walls. It starts with a simple tool called a Chalkline. What a great invention. The string when held taut between two points lays the truth for the framer to follow. If the first floor is not laid straight and square, you will have wavey walls and lots of fudge work to correct the floors above

The house that G&M is building

In the last post titled "April Showers brings May flowers" you got to see how muddy the Arlington, VA jobsite was as the concrete foundation was being poured. A few weeks have passed and the framing is now moving forward. In the attached photos are Bill (Lead Carpenter and Project manager) and Spencer. They have been daitily been walking on the floor joists laying down the first floor deck. Once this is complete they can begin the exterior walls. Can't wait to show you the progress. You will note that as they put down the subfloor, that a good adhesive is used along with nails, this provides a good solid base

    April showers bring May flowers

Last week the rain poured in Arlington, Virginia. That did not slow the progress of a job too much. Remeber the rambler that was posted last week? Well, that home has been completey torn down and the site has been excavated. Now comes the fun part. In the attached photos you can see where new walls have been poured. But on this particularly wet day, G&M Contracting had men outside pouring the last of the footers for this new home. After a few days of curing the forms will come off, there will be more excavation to take down some interior walls, then the framing.

I was cold and wet, so after these photos, I headed to Starbucks for a Tall Redeye, with a dash of nutmeg and cream. Stay tuned!

    Seeing is Believing

With this G&M Contracting project, sufficient and compelling evidence was provided that no excuse could be provided to NOT undergo transformation from a plain Colonial Style home to this beautiful Bungalow.
